Particle trajectories: launches in the Loop Current - Scenario 3

Oil spill response and follow up studies
Particle trajectories:scenario3 launches in the Loop Current

Particle trajectories are simulated using the HYCOM-Lagrangian particle package developed at the University of Miami (Dr. George Halliwell ; ghalliwell@rsmas.miami.edu). Coupling of the HYCOM-Lagrangian to the real-time GoM-HYCOM simulation provides probabilistic nowcast of particle trajectories at the surface as well as in subsurface.
We demonstrate how surface water particles would move if launched on May 05, but near the Loop Current. The simulation highlights the major pathways associated with Loop Current variability during this period. This illustrates the dominant circulation and IS NOT AN OIL SPILL PREDICTION.
